we had a two hour meeting lined up at work today - it was held in the first floor meeting room, which, as i'm sure you are all aware, is a stuffy, windowless box.
th first task was to give graham his birthday 'present', which was a goat. ha ha, we are funny - you see, it wasn't his real present (that was given to him at the end of the meeting).
when we escaped the meeting (which i felt was particularly ridiculous today - it was a motivational type affair, to try and get us to clear a massive backlog of work with the power of our positive thoughts, or something), i went to the canteen to get a cup of coffee. in fact, new drinks machines appeared on our floor on monday this week. and they do not dispense evil nescafe products - yah! but on the down side, they have been almost constantly broken. apparently they don't recognise their own cups.
anyway, the canteen was quite flooded. i almost bounded upstairs to impart this exciting and dramatic news. as i reached my desk, news filtered through of disruption across the city. the train station was dipped into liquid chaos when flooding caused the signals to go wrong. trains were cancelled, angry crowds were marshalled away by some police. up the road in harrogate, a tornado happened. and those that tuned to the roads as a means of getting home before dark were thwarted by a lorry load of sweets; it is unclear what flavour.
update (15/09): the tornado, before fetching up in harrogate, touched down in east end park, a district just two miles from leeds city centre, and only three miles from our flat. and, i can exclusively reveal, the place where we will hopefully be living in a few weeks. yes sir, we are trying to buy a house. ooh, exciting and scary and drawn out.
