So I drove this today:
Actually, Northern might not consider this to be their flagship diesel unit. Even Olive wasn't that impressed, telling me "Daddy, that's a bus".
She's right. The class 142 'Pacer' is based on a Leyland bus designed in the 1970s. They're of use up to a point, but they're pretty old - this one was built in 1985 - and are known for their bouncy ride and draughts. I'm therefore please that this will be my core traction.
I drove around 200 yards at 5 m.p.h. on number 6 fuel road at Neville Hill depot. As this was my first drive, I thought it reasonable to take a picture for posterity.
